I use USPS Priority Mail to ship. Costs are computed automatically at checkout. All items are insured for the amount of purchase.
Returns
Pens and Treenware
All items are guaranteed for 90 days with normal use (pens should not be used for stirring coffee, kaleidoscopes should not be sat on, etc.) I use 90 days because if an item is going to develop problems due to parts failure, it generally shows up by that time. Returned problem items will be repaired, replaced or refunded based on the problem and at my discretion. Please email me for return instructions.
Bowls and other wood items
No refunds are given for bowls and other wood items. Most pieces are decorative, and I have tried to provide enough information for you to make an informed decision in purchasing an item. If you have any additional questions prior to a purchase, please email me at drmaslar@heartwoodartsonline.com
Wood cracks. Wood warps, changes color (dark wood gets darker, light wood turns grey), has knots, rots and sometimes smells – try turning a piece of Zebrawood. But all these features of wood also make it a worthwhile medium (except perhaps for the smell).
So cracks and knots are filled in to stabilize them, often with powdered metal or stone to enhance the “flaw” or left completely open as with a bark inclusion. Wood turned wet wood will warp, and the result may be an almost perfectly oval bowl, or one with a unique character. Finishes inhibit graying and also provide a way to modify and enhance a piece. And rotting wood is subject to spalting, producing lines and patterns of color that augment the grain pattern and form.
I try to make the pieces one of a kind, unique and beautifully “flawed.”
